Group Niepelti

niepelti-species.png

This is a very distinct group.

The pattern is most distinctive. The upperside is black and white, with the female also having the proximal half of the forewing orange. The underside of both sexes have this area yellow. The hindwing is black with an orange post-discal line between which and the margin the veins are streaked bluish-white.

The exact status of some of the species and subspecies have been debated in length, without any clear conclusion.

The group is only to be found in New Guinea.
